The International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association (IBMA) is the worldwide association of biocontrol industries producing microorganisms, macroorganisms, semiochemicals and natural pesticides for plant protection and public health.
Numerous companies and organisations are involved with biological control of pests, diseases and weeds. Some are highly specific and active in well defined niches, others look for larger markets concerning many uses.
In this way, manufacturers, research organisations, extension services, consultants, distributors, ... all contribute to the development of biocontrol. These companies are mainly located in the United States (40 %), Europe (35 %) and the rest spread throughout the World.
Unfortunately industry organisations such as CEFFIC, GCPF, ECPA and others are principally dedicated to the protection of the interests of the chemical industries. They consider biological control as a threat, or at least, as a challenge. Furthermore, biological control companies are often small and medium size companies, and these organisations prefer to protect large, always larger, corporations.
IBMA was created in 1995 in order to syndicate the views of the well understood interests of all stake-holders of biological plant protection. IBMA has recently included other organisations, partners in the field of sustainable crop protection.
With members throughout the World, IBMA has become the only worldwide organisation for biological crop protection, sustainable soil management, animal health and public hygiene.
The IBMA members haves subscribed to the following Charter of Principles as well as to the quality standards agreed upon within the product related working groups.
They are therefore entitled to take profit of this responsible engagements by printing the IBMA logo on their labels and commercial documents.
